Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Tuesday flagged off the construction of nine township roads covering 6.6 kilometres with solar-powered street lights in Bakori Local Government Area.
A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad chief press secretary to the Governor said the Governor said the ₦6.1 billion project, being executed by Mothercat Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, is part of his administration’s commitment to expand infrastructure and improve the quality of life of citizens.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Radda described the project as a major milestone in his administration’s effort to provide quality infrastructure that supports economic growth, enhances mobility, and improves the wellbeing of the people.
“The construction of these nine township roads demonstrates our resolve to provide modern infrastructure that supports economic growth and social development,” the Governor said.
Governor Radda noted that his administration has prioritized investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, security, and youth empowerment under the Building Your Future agenda.
He said the Bakori project addresses residents’ long-standing concerns over poor road conditions, especially transportation challenges during the rainy season.
“The construction of these roads will improve accessibility within the town. The solar-powered street lighting will enhance security, support commercial activities at night, and contribute to a cleaner urban environment,” he added.
The Governor emphasized that development must not be concentrated in a few locations but must reach every community across the state.
He commended the Ministry of Works for quality supervision and urged Mothercat Limited to maintain high standards and ensure timely completion.
Governor Radda appealed to residents to cooperate with the contractor and engineers throughout the construction period.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Hon. Sani Magaji Ingawa, said road infrastructure remains a major pillar of the Building Your Future agenda because it connects communities, promotes trade, reduces travel time, and attracts investment.
He said the administration has executed road construction, rehabilitation, and urban renewal projects across the Katsina, Daura, and Funtua Senatorial Districts.
The Senator representing Katsina South, Senator Muntari Dandutse, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, the Chairman of Bakori LGA, Hon. Abubakar Musa Barde, and the District Head of Bakori, Alhaji Garba Tukur Idris, all commended the Governor for the intervention and pledged community support.
The event was attended by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; Chief of Staff, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional and religious leaders, and other government officials.
