“From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts”

The Governor of Katsina State and Chairman of the North West Governors’ Forum, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, will on Monday, 21 September 2026, lead his counterparts from the seven North West States to a high-level side event on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad chief press secretary to the Governor said the event will showcase the growing role of the North West Governors’ Forum as a platform for regional coordination and present the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030 to an international audience of development partners, investors, financial institutions and private-sector leaders.

In less than two years, the Forum has moved from regional consensus around shared challenges to the adoption of a common framework for peace, security, resilience and development across the seven states. The process has been supported by the United Nations system, particularly UNDP, with sustained high-level engagement from the UN Deputy Secretary-General, H.E. Amina J. Mohammed.

For Governor Radda, the New York engagement is an opportunity to position the North West not only around the challenges it faces, but around its collective strengths, emerging institutions and investment opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, technology, mining and human capital.

The side event will also seek stronger partnerships, financing and private investment for implementation of the Framework, under the regional message: “Seven States. One Ambition.”

The engagement represents an important transition for the Forum; from building regional consensus to taking a coordinated North West proposition to the global stage
