As part of its unwavering commitment to the welfare of host communities, Headquarters 19 Brigade Nigerian Army has deployed emergency medical support to communities affected by the recent cholera outbreak in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Emanuel Naduabuchukwu,Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Headquarters 19 Brigade Nigerian Army said the Acting Commander 19 Brigade, Colonel EO Ikang, gave the assurance during an operational visit to the affected communities, where he conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the situation at the Cross Kauwa Primary Healthcare Centre. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s readiness to continue collaborating with relevant government agencies, health authorities, and other critical stakeholders to contain the outbreak and safeguard the health of residents.
Colonel Ikang recalled that, in anticipation of the rainy season and the associated risk of waterborne diseases, the Brigade recently conducted extensive environmental sanitation exercises across Kukawa and Cross Kauwa communities as part of its proactive Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives. Following confirmation of the cholera outbreak, the Brigade immediately deployed its Medical Emergency Response Team to reinforce existing healthcare facilities through the provision of medical personnel, essential medical supplies, consultations, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, and other lifesaving interventions aimed at curtailing the spread of the disease.
The Acting Commander emphasized that the intervention underscores the Nigerian Army’s enduring commitment to protecting lives beyond its core constitutional responsibility of ensuring security. He stressed that the Brigade would continue to support all legitimate efforts geared towards improving public health, security, and the overall socio-economic well-being of communities within its area of responsibility.
During the medical outreach, large numbers of residents accessed the Brigade’s emergency healthcare services, while beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation to the Nigerian Army for its timely intervention and sustained sacrifices in support of peace, security, and humanitarian service delivery across the North East. They also pledged their continued cooperation with security agencies in the collective effort to restore lasting peace and development in the region.
The intervention further demonstrates Headquarters 19 Brigade’s steadfast commitment to Civil-Military Cooperation and its resolve to remain a dependable partner in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of the people it is sworn to protect.
