The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has confirmed a single case of COVID-19 in Cross River State.
In a statement, the Director-General of NCDC Dr Jide Idris assured Nigerians that the situation is under control, with no indication of widespread transmission.
Dr Idris said the infected patient has been isolated and is currently receiving medical care in line with national treatment protocols.
According to him, the patient is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
The NCDC further said that immediate response measures have been activated in collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Health and development partners.
These includes contact tracing, enhanced surveillance, and strengthened infection prevention and control measures.
Dr Idris explained that all identified contacts of the patient were being monitored, and so far, there has been no evidence of further spread.
He noted that the detection of the case reflects the effectiveness of the country’s disease surveillance system, which remains active and responsive.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and observe basic preventive measures such as proper hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, staying home when unwell, and seeking medical attention when necessary.
Dr Idris also advised Nigerians to rely on information from official public health authorities to avoid misinformation.
The NCDC reaffirmed its commitment to continue monitoring the situation and provide timely updates as necessary.
