The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a two week ultimatum to the Federal Government to reduce the price of petrol and begin the renegotiation of the national minimum wage.
The ultimatum was contained in a communiqué released after a joint meeting of the NLC National Executive Council and Central Working Committee at Labour House, Abuja.

The communiqué signed by the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, says the deadline would start from Friday, October 9, 2026.
Nigeria Labour Congress has directed its affiliates and progressive allies to remain on high alert and prepared for the next line of action.
The move was premised on what the union called worsening economic and survival crises confronting workers and Nigerians
The communique says inflation continues to soar unabated, the naira remains traumatised, wages have been rendered worthless, and the cost of living has become unbearable.
On the national minimum wage, Ajaero maintained that the value of workers’ earnings had been affected by depreciation of the naira and the rising cost of living.
It noted that Nigerian workers could no longer afford basic necessities such as food, transportation, shelter, healthcare and education.
The NLC urged the Federal Government to commence renegotiation of the national minimum wage before the end of October.
The Congress also demands a living wage that reflects the cost of living and the dignity of the Nigerian
The Congress called for immediate reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

The Union called on the federal government to work closely with relevant agencies to reduce the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
The Congress also demanded that the Federal Government grant tax relief to workers and immediately provide wage awards to cushion the effects of rising living costs.
