    KANO POLICE CRACK CAR THEFT SYNDICATE: FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED, STOLEN PONTIAC VIBE RECOVERED AND RETURNED TO OWNER, RECOVERED TOYOTA COROLLA LE AWAITS CLAIMANT

    In a renewed offensive against car theft and related crimes, operatives of the Command’s Special Investigation Squad (SIS), have recorded significant breakthroughs with the arrest of four suspects and recovery of two stolen vehicles in separate operations.

    This was contained in a statement signed by the command public relations officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa issued to newsmen.

    Case 1: Arrest of Four Suspects with Stolen Toyota Corolla LE

    On 31st March 2026, at about 0315hrs, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the SIS swung into action and arrested four suspects: Abdurahman Hassan, 51, of Rijiyar Zaki, Gwale LGA; Haruna Abdullahi, 45, of Ja’en Sharada Quarters; Hamza Sani Yunusa, 45, of Zuwaciki, Kumbotso LGA; and Alhaji Rabiu Mohammed Baba, 45, of Dorayi Chiranchi, Kumbotso LGA, all of Kano State.

    The suspects were found in possession of one Toyota Corolla LE, ash in colour, with value yet to be ascertained. Intelligence revealed that the said vehicle was stolen from Ibadan, Oyo State. Upon interrogation, the suspects failed to give a satisfactory account of the vehicle. Investigation is in progress.

    Case 2: Recovery of Stolen Pontiac Vibe Abandoned in Katsina State

    In a related development, on 18th March 2026, at about 1520hrs, a female resident of Naibawa Yan-Lemo Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, reported that on 14th March 2026, at about 2056hrs, she parked her Pontiac Vibe, black in colour, valued at Eight Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N8,200,000), at Lamido Crescent, Tarauni LGA. Upon returning from a clinic, she discovered that unknown thieves had stolen the vehicle.

    Upon receipt of the complaint, teams of Police officers were immediately drafted to ensure the recovery of the stolen vehicle. The suspects on a hot chase, later abandoned the vehicle around Jibiya Road, Katsina State, while attempting to flee to Niger Republic. The Police Team recovered the stolen Pontiac Vibe Motor Vehicle. The vehicle has been duly handed over to the rightful owner. Operatives are intensifying efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover more exhibits.

    The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, commends the operatives for their professionalism and intelligence-driven policing. He appreciates members of the public for their continuous support and timely information which made these successes possible.

    The Command wishes to inform the general public that the recovered Toyota Corolla LE, ash in colour, is currently in Police custody. Anyone who recognizes the vehicle is requested to report at the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kano State Police Command, Bompai, with valid proof of ownership, or contact the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) on *07063407910*.

    The Command remains resolute in its fight against car theft and other crimes. Residents are urged to install security devices in their vehicles, avoid parking in isolated areas, and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest Police Station or via the Command’s emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926, or through the “NPF Rescue Me” application.
