Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state has selected Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, following the decision to replace the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu.

The announcement was made on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge, Birnin Kebbi, during a thank-you visit by stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate to the Governor.

Speaking on the significance of the change, the National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, explained that the decision was based on professional legal advice concerning the eligibility of the incumbent Deputy Governor.

“The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice”.

He announced that Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie had been selected as the new running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election.

Alhaji Suleiman emphasised that the decision was reached with the understanding and consent of Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida.

He stressed that there was no disagreement between the Governor and his Deputy and urged politicians and supporters across the state to remain united and work collectively for the success of the APC in the 2027 general election.

Governor Nasir Idris expressed appreciation to the people of Argungu Emirate for their continued support and cooperation with his administration.

The Governor reiterated that there was no disagreement between him and Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, explaining that the decision to make the change was necessitated by legal considerations and was made with the Deputy Governor’s understanding and consent.

Governor Nasir Idris also highlighted some of the achievements recorded by his administration, particularly across the Argungu Emirate, and appealed for continued support, cooperation, and prayers as his administration pursues further development across Kebbi State.
