    The Zamfara State Government, in collaboration with Malaria Consortium, has begun preparations for the 2026 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign with a one day stakeholders’ meeting.

    A statement signed by the ministry public relations officer Suleiman isa said the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, Represented by the Permanent secretary Ministry of Health Rilwanu Musa Zurmi said malaria remains a major health challenge, especially among children under five, and described SMC as a key strategy to reduce the burden.

    She said the meeting was aimed at engaging partners, reviewing past efforts, addressing gaps and strengthening coordination for a successful campaign. She urged stakeholders to contribute ideas and work together to ensure effective planning and community engagement.

    Malaria Consortium Team Lead, Ridwanu Jega, said the 2026 campaign will target over one million children across the state’s 14 local government areas. He stressed the need to align activities with the state’s plan to improve impact.

    A WHO representative, Dr. Raji, highlighted the importance of accurate data and strong micro planning, urging better coordination among partners to improve results.

    Stakeholders from government and partner organizations attended the meeting to strategize on effective implementation of the campaign.
