The Nigerian Army, as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), conducted a free medical outreach for residents of Okrika Community in Rivers State. The outreach was held at Okrika Grammar School, Okrika Local Government Area, on Sunday, 5 July 2026.
In his welcome address, the Commander, Corps of Medical, Brigadier General Innocent A. Enwuchola, said the outreach underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to the people. He noted that the beneficiaries received medical consultations, dental services, eye examinations, free drugs, health education and other healthcare services. He urged members of the community to embrace a healthy lifestyle, seek timely medical attention, and continue to support public health initiatives aimed at preventing diseases and promoting wellness.
Also speaking, the Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaib, Nigerian Army Medal, who was represented by Commander Emanuel A. Mustapha, said the outreach demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the health, well-being and prosperity of the Nigerian people. He commended personnel of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and all collaborating healthcare professionals whose dedication made the outreach possible. He also urged members of the host community to continue supporting Nigerian Army operations through intelligence sharing, assuring them that the Nigerian Army would continue its civil-military cooperation activities.
During the outreach, 10 wheelchairs and 10 crutches were presented to persons with disabilities. Children aged five years and below were also dewormed, while toothbrushes and toothpaste were distributed to beneficiaries.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the community, the Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro Tobin, who was represented by the Director of Communication of the Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Fiberesima, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for choosing Okrika Community for the free medical outreach. He assured the Nigerian Army of the continued support of the Local Government and the people of the community in promoting national security.
Similarly, the Principal of Okrika Grammar School, Mr. Kevin Samson Fubara, expressed his appreciation to the Nigerian Army for selecting the school as the venue for the outreach and for giving the people of Okrika Community the opportunity to benefit from the civil-military cooperation activities organised as part of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
The event was attended by Principal Staff Officers from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, community leaders and other dignitaries.
