The Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) Officers’ have been charged to sustain innovation and remain ahead of emerging trends in financial management to enhance operational effectiveness.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Shittul,Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Nigerian Army Signal said the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Corps Commander Ordnance, Major General Garba Ibrahim, gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the NAFC Officers’ 15th Biennial Training Conference. The event was held at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA), Arakan Cantonment, Apapa, Lagos on Thursday 13 August 2026.
The COAS noted that officers of the Corps must remain drivers of change by improving efficiency, strengthening accountability and providing timely financial support to all levels of command. He said the conference had critically examined contemporary issues in military financial management, facilitated knowledge exchange and generated practical ideas to improve financial support to Nigerian Army (NA) operations.
He stressed that the ongoing transformation of the NA into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force requires strong institutional support systems, with the NAFC playing a critical role through prudent financial management, timely resource allocation, sound financial advice and accountability.
Lieutenant General Shaibu particularly commended the conference’s emphasis on digital transformation, innovation and continuous professional development, noting that automation, integrated financial management systems, artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity are increasingly indispensable to effective financial governance and decision-making.
The COAS also commended the Chief of Accounts and Budget (CAB) Army (A), Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, for initiatives aimed at deepening professionalism within the Corps, including the institutionalisation of Division Finance and Accounts Training Weeks and the conduct of Exercise COWRIE RITES 2026. He urged the Corps to sustain such initiatives and build a digitally competent and professionally respected workforce.
He tasked participants to translate knowledge acquired at the conference into tangible improvements in financial planning, budgeting, audit readiness, digital innovation, accountability and service delivery. He further charged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, stressing that their decisions directly impact operational effectiveness, troops’ welfare and public confidence in the NA.
Earlier, the Acting Commandant, NASFA, Brigadier General John Bulus, in his vote of thanks on behalf of the Chief Host, appreciated the COAS and the NA leadership for their strategic guidance and support. He also commended the resource persons, senior serving and retired officers, participants, organisers and support teams for their contributions to the success of the conference.
Brigadier General Bulus noted that the 5-day conference, themed “Leveraging Digital Financial Technology and Professionalism for Enhanced Troops’ Morale Needed for Mission Successes,” provided participants with renewed clarity, enhanced skills and a unified vision towards transforming financial operations in support of frontline troops.
The conference, which brought together senior military officers, retired officers, past (CAB) (A), past directors and commanders army finance and accounts, resource persons and participants, ended with the presentation of souvenirs and a cocktail party.
