The Coordinator of the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Headquarters Logistics Command Chapter, Mrs Fatima Suleh, has reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to education, welfare and community development for family of personnel, while seeking support from the Leadership of Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) for ongoing empowerment projects across the Chapter.
Mrs Suleh stated this during a courtesy visit by members of the Association to the Commandant of NAFRC, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ilo, at NAFRC in Lagos.
The Coordinator also used the opportunity to congratulate the Commandant on his appointment and reiterate NAFOWA’s disposition to strengthen collaboration between both organisations.
Mrs Suleh stated that the NAFOWA Headquarters Logistics Command Chapter comprises officers’ wives across Ikeja, Shasha, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ibadan and other parts of the South-West. She noted that the Association remains committed to unity, welfare, and humanitarian services within the Air Force community, it’s host communities and beyond.
She further disclosed that NAFOWA operates three schools in Ikeja, Shasha and Ibadan, providing early childhood education and support for learning.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the Association, the Chairperson appealed for support for key projects, including interlocking of the crèche and event hall surroundings, procurement of banquet chairs and tables among others at the Shasha school. Other areas are installation of air conditioners and fans, and completion of other ongoing school projects in Shasha. She further noted that the interventions would improve learning conditions and enhance service delivery.
Responding, the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Ilo commended NAFOWA for its contributions to welfare and education. He outlined the mandate of NAFRC in preparing retiring personnel for post-service life and supporting widows through empowerment programmes. He particularly noted that NAFRC is making frantic efforts towards entrenching formidable welfare schemes/vocational skills in the Centre especially for the widows and orphans of the fallen heroes as well as the less privileged in the Area.
He assured the Association of NAFRC support within available resources and advised members to avoid anything that could cause disharmony in the barracks and create unnecessary rancour among members. He therefore advised the leadership of the Association to institute veritable programmes that will promote inclusivity among members.
