Fresh political intrigues are unfolding in Kano as the Kwankwasiyya political bloc, through the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is reportedly making strategic moves to lure Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress , into contesting for the Dawakin-Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat under its platform.

Multiple party sources disclosed that the move is part of a broader strategy by the Kwankwasiyya camp to capitalize on the growing discontent surrounding the APC primary process in the constituency, amid allegations that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and interests within his circle are working against Dawaki’s ambition.

The constituency, which covers Dawakin-Kudu and Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, has become one of the most closely watched political battlegrounds ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.

According to insiders familiar with the matter, the NDC sees Dawaki as a politically valuable figure whose defection could significantly embarrass the APC at the national level, particularly because of his close working relationship with APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe.

“The optics would be damaging for the APC,” a source familiar with the development said. “If the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman himself is denied a ticket through controversial means and then welcomed by another platform, it sends a message about internal injustice within the party.”

Reports emerging from the APC primary process in the constituency alleged that the exercise was marred by irregularities, manipulation and rigging, fueling resentment among supporters of Dawaki.

Political observers note that Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki remains one of the most experienced politicians from the constituency. He previously served three terms in the House of Representatives and chaired the influential House Committee on Appropriations during the 8th National Assembly.

Dawaki is academically distinguished, holding a Bachelor’s degree from Bayero University Kano as well as postgraduate qualifications including an MSc and MBA from institutions in London and Scotland. He also possesses over 12 years of legislative experience in the National Assembly.

In contrast, the Gov. Abba’s reported preferred aspirant, Hon. Shu’aibu Rabiu, is currently serving as a first-term member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Dawakin-Kudu State Constituency. Rabiu has approximately three years of legislative experience and holds a secondary school qualification.

Analysts believe the unfolding scenario could deepen internal tensions within the APC in Kano State, especially if Dawaki eventually accepts the NDC’s overtures.

All efforts to reach Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki for comments on the development were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. Neither Dawaki nor the APC leadership had officially responded to the alleged moves by the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya group
