The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has expressed his appreciation to the Nigerian Army (NA) for reinforcing dedication to security and ensuring stability in his Kingdom. Oba Owoade made this known when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, NA, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, paid homage to him at his palace in the ancient Oyo Kingdom while on a tour of newly established formations and units on 1 October 2026.
This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma Acting deputy director army public relations 2 Division Army Public Relations issued to newsmen.
Speaking further, the Royal Father reassured the NA of his support and pledged to do everything possible to ensure that the troops of 7 Brigade have a good stay in his Kingdom.
He thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving the establishment of 7 Brigade in his domain, while reassuring that his people are hospitable and accommodating.
Earlier, the GOC, Major General Mahmuda informed His Imperial Majesty that he was in the ancient town of Oyo essentially to ensure that the initial troops deployed to the new Brigade settle in and discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
He further stressed that the establishment of the Brigade was part of the strategic vision and wisdom of the COAS to expand the presence of the NA, in having more boots on the ground to effectively respond to contemporary security challenges. Hence, the decision to establish the Brigade in Oyo.

The GOC, on behalf of the COAS, thanked His Imperial Majesty for the incredible support he has provided to the troops, particularly the accommodation facility he provided for the troops since their arrival.
The GOC also interacted with community leaders, where he reassured them that the newly established formations and units are here to stay. He maintained that the NA will continue to work for peace and stability to enable socio-economic activities to thrive in the area.
