The Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, Alhaji Umar Rebe, said the state government has been able to reduce cases of farmer/herder clashes in the state to the lowest level.

A statement signed by Bologi Ibrahim Chief press secretary to the Governor said he stated this during a quarterly media briefing organised by the ministry of information and orientation in Minna.

He said the feat was achieved through the inclusive governance of the present administration in the state where the pastoralists have been identified and are being provided with basic social amenities and employment opportunities.

According to him, “We now have data of pastoralists in the state, and we are collaborating with security agencies to profile those coming from other states to avert crises in the future.”

He said committees have been set up and advocacies are being sustained to ensure that the successes recorded in taming the farmer/herder clashes are strengthened.

Also speaking, Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, C.P. Adamu Abdullahi Elleman said the security agencies have continued to combat banditry and other crimes in the state.

The C.P., represented by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, acknowledged that bandits usually gain access into the state through border communities with Niger State.

He said efforts are being intensified through collaborative efforts to tackle the menace.

On farmer/herder clashes, the C.P. said the police have established a committee at the local government level across the 25 local government areas of the state comprising relevant stakeholders as preventive and proactive measures.

He said the committee are to address issues concerning farmers and headers with the view to ensuring peaceful resolution.

The C.P. said the police are also partnering with the ministry of information and orientation to sensitise the public on ways to resolve issues without violence.
