The Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) has operationalized eight operational vehicles and conducted maiden tree-planting ceremony as part of activities to commemorate Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026.
A statement signed by Major Nsima Essien Assistant Director Army Public Relations Nigerian Army Women Command Giri, Abuja said the event was held on 25 June 2026 at the 1 Women Battalion, Giri, Abuja, to enhance troops operational efficiency, administrative mobility and logistics support. It also aimed to combat climate change and environmental degradation across the Command.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, who was represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (Army), Major General MA Etsu-Ndagi, formally operationalized the refurbished vehicles involving six Hilux vehicles and two coaster buses as well as conducted the tree planting ceremony. He commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army Women Command for the initiative.
The COAS representative also expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the Commander noting that the refurbished vehicles would significantly improve operational readiness and mission effectiveness within the Command.
He also applauded the maiden tree-planting exercise, describing it as a timely initiative that aligns with global environmental sustainability efforts and the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility objectives.
According to him, the projects demonstrate prudent management of resources and reflects the Command’s commitment to improving personnel welfare while enhancing operational efficiency.
In his remarks, the Commander, Nigerian Army Women Command, Brigadier General MS Adamu, said the commissioning of the refurbished vehicles and the maiden tree-planting initiative reflected the Command’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence, environmental sustainability and the welfare of its personnel in line with the COAS mission command philosophy of operational readiness, soldier first culture and global environmental sustainability goals.
He encouraged the personnel to embrace environmental stewardship by nurturing and preserving the planted trees, stressing that sustainable environmental practices are essential to the well-being of future generations.
Accordingly, goodwill messages were delivered by the Representative of Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General JR Lar, alongside other serving and retired senior military officers who commended the Command for its forward-looking initiatives.
The ceremony attracted Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, heads of Nigerian Army establishments within Giri axis, senior serving and retired officers, as well as other distinguished guests.
