The Nigerian institute of Transport Technology has hosted officials from the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), who visited to discuss possible areas of collaboration.
In his remarks, the DG/CE, NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, who was represented by the Director, Transport Technology Center, Dr. Joshua A. Odeleye, stressed the critical importance of NASRDA in the successful implementation of the Smart National Transport Databank Project.
He observed that the agency was key to the deployment of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) in tracking vehicles and improving transportation in the country. Dr. Odeleye further emphasised the need for joint conferences, training and retraining of staff and other critical stakeholders.
Speaking at the meeting, the leader of the NASRDA delegation, Dr. Idris Jega, disclosed that the agency was solely responsible for “designing, operating and regulating” space activities. He further noted that NASRDA would collaborate with NITT on capacity building and training especially, remote sensing and drone technology.
A statement from the press and public relations unit of the institute said the highlight of the meeting was a tour of the Institute’s laboratories, Transport Databank Backend and other critical infrastructure.
