The Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, on Thursday, 30 July 2026, held its 2025/2026 Academic Session Beating of the Retreat Ceremony, marking the successful conclusion of the academic session and the transition of the passing-out SS3 boys to the next phase of their lives.

In his welcome address, the Commandant, NMS, Brigadier General ON Ejiga, described the Beating of the Retreat as one of the military’s most cherished traditions that symbolises discipline, honour, loyalty and selfless service. He urged the graduating boys to remain worthy ambassadors of the School by upholding the values of integrity, courage and excellence instilled in them throughout their training. The Commandant also appreciated the Special Guest of Honour, Major General PP Malla, distinguished guests, alumni and parents for their unwavering support to the institution.
Delivering his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour and Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army, Major General PP Malla, reflected on his journey from a Boy Soldier to his current appointment, attributing his success to the discipline, resilience and patriotism acquired at the Nigerian Military School. He charged the passing-out boys to remain steadfast, shun shortcuts, embrace hard work and uphold the ideals of the School wherever life takes them. He also commended the officers, instructors, staff and parents for their commitment to grooming the boys into disciplined, responsible citizens and future leaders.
The ceremony featured the traditional Beating of the Retreat, lowering of the National Colours and other ceremonial activities witnessed by senior military officers, alumni, parents, invited guests and friends of the School.
