The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its sustained efforts to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and prevent activities capable of threatening public safety across the State.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Timfon John said on 31 August 2026, at about 1752 hours, the Command received a distress call concerning a masquerade-related activity along Mbak Akpan Ekpenyong.
Acting swiftly on the distress call, operatives of the Command immediately mobilised to the area to restore normalcy and prevent any escalation of the situation.
Upon arrival at the scene, the operatives successfully arrested three male suspects, namely:
1. Uwakmfon Sunday
2. Edidiong Jackson
3. Sunday Tom
Other participants at the scene fled upon sighting the police. Masquerade regalia found in the possession of the suspects were also recovered and secured as exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professional handling of the situation. He reiterated that the Command will continue to respond decisively to distress calls and intelligence pointing to activities capable of disrupting public peace.
The Commissioner further warned individuals and groups who may attempt to exploit cultural or traditional activities as a cover for disorder, intimidation, violence or other unlawful conduct to desist, stressing that no individual or group will be permitted to undermine the peace and security of Akwa Ibom State.
He, however, assured law-abiding residents that the Police Command respects lawful cultural and traditional practices and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that such activities are conducted peacefully and within the ambit of the law.
The Command therefore calls on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, threats to public safety or breaches of the peace to the nearest police formation or through the established emergency communication channels.
