The command’s spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued in Damaturu.

He said the first suspect, a 24-year-old Habu Haruna of Rainukunu Garun Dole village, was arrested on July 18 by operatives attached to Garin Alkali Division in Bursari Local Government Area, for allegedly luring a seven-year-old girl into a nearby bush and raping her.

According to him, the victim has been taken to a medical facility for examination, treatment and psychosocial support, while investigation into the case is ongoing.

Abdulkarim said detectives attached to Bara Divisional Police Headquarters also arrested 65-year-old Mohammed Ya’u of Kajole village, on July 19, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl inside an uncompleted building.

He said both the victim and the suspect had been taken to a medical facility for forensic and clinical examination to aid investigation and possible prosecution.

The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police in Yobe, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, condemned the alleged offences, particularly those involving children, describing them as cruel, inhumane and unacceptable.
