In Zamfara state, the State Police Command has successfully facilitated the safe return of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral community of Fegin Kanawa Village in Gusau Local Government Area. This remarkable milestone comes after the residents endured over a year of displacement driven by persistent bandit attacks.

The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello. According to the command, the initiative directly aligns with the strategic vision of the Commissioner to restore normalcy, reinforce public confidence, and robustly protect lives and property throughout the state.

To further safeguard the community and revitalize the local economy, the Nigeria Police Force has put in place adequate security measures. This assurance allows the returning residents to safely resume their farming activities and daily livelihoods without the crippling fear of criminal attacks, kidnapping, or intimidation.

Coinciding with the mass return, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, officially launched the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at Fegin Kanawa Village. Governor Lawal commended the Inspector-General of Police for the timely initiative, describing the unit as a strategic and critical asset in ongoing efforts to crush insecurity and violent crime across the state.

The newly established unit is built on the core principles of professionalism, accountability, discipline, and respect for human rights, in line with the Nigeria Police Act 2020. The police command revealed that personnel deployed to the VCRU have undergone intensive, specialized training designed to enhance their operational efficiency and professional conduct.

Reaffirming the command’s determination, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello warned that there would be no hiding place for criminals in Zamfara. He also extended his appreciation to Governor Lawal for his continuous support of security operations and community safety initiatives.

In a related development, the State Police Command has urged members of the public to maintain strong cooperation with security agencies. Citizens are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activities or security threats using the following emergency contact numbers: 08069806254, 08126281582, 07062359572, 08105884781, and 07019828991.
