The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), under the distinguished leadership of its National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, warmly extends its profound appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), under the able leadership of its Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), for its magnanimity, understanding, and responsiveness in extending the deadline for the upload of Presidential and National Assembly candidates by an additional three (3) days.

The exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on Saturday, 11th July 2026, has now been extended to Tuesday, 14th July 2026, following the patriotic intervention and request of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

A statement signed byProf. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe National Chairman Social Democratic Party (SDP) said this timely decision demonstrates INEC’s commitment to inclusiveness, fairness, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic process.

It said that this extension will undoubtedly provide political parties with a valuable opportunity to complete the upload of their candidates and address outstanding administrative challenges. It is particularly significant considering that political parties effectively lost the first three (3) days of the exercise, which commenced on 26th June 2026, due to circumstances beyond their control.

The statement added that the additional time will therefore help ensure broader participation and enhance the integrity of the nomination process.

The SDP also expresses its sincere appreciation to the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), under the capable leadership of H.E. Hon. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, for its constructive engagement, effective representation, and steadfast advocacy on behalf of all registered political parties. The successful outcome of this intervention underscores the importance of sustained dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect among key stakeholders in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

We firmly believe that this remarkable demonstration of cooperation and understanding between INEC and IPAC will further strengthen institutional trust, foster greater collaboration among democratic actors, and establish an enduring legacy upon which Nigeria’s democracy can continue to grow and flourish.

On behalf of the National Working Committee, state chapters, elected officials, aspirants, candidates, and the teeming members of our great party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), we heartily congratulate the leadership of both INEC and IPAC, for this commendable demonstration of leadership, wisdom, and commitment to democratic values.

The party also prayed that may Almighty God continue to grant Chairman ,the wisdom and courage to always act in the best interest of our nation and our evolving democracy. May He continue to guide, protect, and strengthen all of us in the discharge of the enormous responsibilities entrusted to us as leaders.
