Sokoto- August 10, 2026 – Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu for interventions in education, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure and social welfare.

Shagari, in a statement signed on his behalf by his media aide, Musa Ubandawaki, said the administration had demonstrated determination to improve living conditions and lay a foundation for sustainable development.

He said the governor’s achievements were becoming visible across the state, particularly in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, social intervention and environmental management.

According to him, investment in education including rehabilitation of schools and provision of learning facilities represents an investment in the future of Sokoto State.

Shagari also commended the governor’s agricultural initiatives, including the provision of free fertiliser and pesticides to farmers. He said strengthening agriculture remains critical to food security, poverty reduction and economic empowerment in the predominantly agrarian state.

He said government support to farmers through inputs and other interventions would help stimulate production, strengthen rural livelihoods and improve the state’s contribution to national food security.

On healthcare, he acknowledged efforts to improve infrastructure and access to essential medical services, saying a healthy population was the foundation for economic and social development.

He also praised the administration’s attention to religious affairs and social welfare, saying programmes targeted at vulnerable citizens, orphans and disadvantaged families demonstrated concern for the welfare of the people.

    *Infrastructure and sanitation*

Shagari said investment in roads, water supply, housing, markets and power was reshaping the physical and economic landscape of the state. He noted that sustained investment in infrastructure would enhance economic activities, facilitate movement of people and goods, and attract investment.

He further applauded the governor for attention to environmental hygiene, saying the Sokoto metropolis had witnessed improvement in cleanliness. He urged residents to complement government efforts through proper waste disposal and protection of public facilities.

    *Call for support*

The former deputy governor called on residents, irrespective of political or ethnic differences, to support the administration to move the state forward.

“The development of Sokoto State is a collective responsibility. Government can initiate projects and programmes, but their sustainability depends largely on the cooperation and support of the people,” he said.

“Sokoto belongs to all of us. Its progress must therefore be a shared mission. Let us put aside unnecessary divisions and work together to build a state that future generations will be proud to inherit,” Shagari added.

He expressed confidence that with continued commitment by government and cooperation of the people, Sokoto State would attain greater heights in economic, educational and infrastructural development.
