President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the membership of the Federal Executive Council.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, two cabinet members, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa have been directed to step down from the Federal Executive Council, with immediate replacements announced.
Mr. Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been instructed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been appointed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Prior to this appointment, Oyedele served as Minister of State in the ministry.
Additionally, Muttaqha Rabe-Darma has been named ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
While, the former Minister, Mr. Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending the completion of the appointment process.
According to the memo, all handover procedures must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
Explaining the rationale for the reshuffle, Akume stated that the changes are intended to strengthen cohesion and synergy within government and enhance the delivery of economic outcomes for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring cabinet members that efforts to reinvigorate government performance will remain continuous.
