    Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) conducted its Second Doctrine and Combat Development Workshop on Manual Wargaming for Tactical Commanders from 22 to 26 June 2026 at Minna Military Cantonment, Niger State.

    A statement signed Felicia Daniel acting deputy director army public relations, training and doctrine command Nigerian army said the Workshop nicknamed Exercise GAFILI GADOKI V, was themed “Consolidating Tactical Commanders’ Proficiency on Manual Wargaming for Effective Decision-Making Process in the Nigerian Army Training and Operations within a Joint Environment.”

    Declaring the workshop open, the Commander TRADOC NA, Major General Peter Malla, described manual wargaming as an indispensable tool for military planning, decision making and operational analysis. Building on previous editions held, the exercise contributes to the actualisation of the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy which seeks “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Professional, Adaptable, Combat-ready, and Resilient Force, Capable of Decisively Discharging its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.”

    In his welcome address, the Acting Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development, Brigadier General Muhammed Abubakar, highlighted the aim of the workshop which is to develop a pool of experts proficient in manual wargaming techniques. The week-long event featured lectures by seasoned serving and retired senior officers, on Military Decision-Making Process, Estimate Process, and Application of Manual Wargaming as well as hands-on by participants.

    The Commander TRADOC NA expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise and encouraged participants to sustain their proficiency through continuous study and practical application in their respective formations, units, and training institutions. He appreciated the COAS for his visionary leadership and sustained support to capacity development initiatives within the Nigerian Army. He also thanked the Resource Persons for their invaluable contributions, and lauded the participants and organizers for their dedication. He concluded by wishing all participants a safe journey back to their respective destinations.
