The Commandant, Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS), Major General Sunday Makolo has said training remains the bedrock of military professionalism, professional development and operational readiness in the Nigerian Army.
A statement signed by Major AA Adekunle Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Nigerian Army Armoured Corps said he made this statement at the combined inauguration ceremony of Third and Fourth Quarter Courses 2026 held at Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Auditorium, Obienu Barracks, Bauchi State on 28 September, 2026.
Major General Makolo emphasised the need for continuous training of personnel of the Nigerian Army Armour Corps, stressing that the contemporary operational environment requires personnel who possess sound tactical judgment, technical competence, adaptability, initiative and the ability to operate effectively in joint and complex environments.
The Commandant reiterated that Nigerian Army Armoured School has the responsibility to develop well-trained personnel through realistic training, manpower development and effective equipment maintenance in order to sustain the combat readiness of the Armoured Corps and the Nigerian Army in general.
He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM) for the logistics and financial support extended to the school as well as to the Commander, Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar, for his unwavering commitment to training.
He also commended instructors and staff for their dedication and efforts toward the successful conduct of training activities.
Earlier, the Acting Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Colonel Aliyu Umar, disclosed that the inauguration marked the commencement of eight courses. The courses include: Armour Battalion Commander Course, Armour Company Commander Course, Platoon Sergeant Course, A1 Crewman Recce Automotive Course, A1 Crewman Tank Automotive Course, A1 Crewman Recce Weapons Course, A1 Crewman Tank Weapons Course and A1 Crewman Communication Course.
He added that the courses will feature both theoretical and practical approaches, including Exercises Iron Thrust and Mugun Bugu which are designed to test the adaptability, combat readiness and professionalism of students in warfare.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Instructors, Senior Instructors, officers, Consultants, Instructors and Regimental Sergeant Major. The event concluded with groupphotographs.
