    UPDATE: TROOPS OF OPERATION ENDURING PEACE NEUTRALIZE TERRORIST ELEMENTS, ARREST SUSPECTED GUN RUNNER AND RECOVER FABRICATED RIFLES IN PLATEAU STATE

    operations against terrorist elements operating across Operation ENDURING PEACE Joint Operations Area, troops of sector 6, at the early hours of Friday, 26 June 2026, conducted a decisive operation at the Gero Highground in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

    A statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh media information officer joint task force operations Enduring peace said the operation was initiated following the report of several nefarious activities of suspected terrorists within the area.

    Approaching the Highground, the troops came under fire from the terrorists hideout who were using livestock as a shield. Troops immediately held their position and called for reinforcement, the timely arrival of the reinforcement forced the terrorists to withdrew off the engagement area. Troops exploited the situation, established pursuit against the retreating terrorists and neutralized some of the terrorists while others fled. Troops maintained aggressive combing of the general area to neutralize the fleeing terrorists and dismantle their enclaves.

    In related development, at about 10:00am same day, troops of sector 5 deployed at Maijanki, intercepted a motorcycle conveying 2 persons from Kuba District in Bokkos Local Government Area towards Maijanki in Barkin Ladi. Upon sighting troops at the checkpoint, the 2 passengers threw away a bag and fled into the surrounding bush. Troops quickly recovered the abandoned bag and arrested the motorcycle rider. A thorough search of the bag led to the discovery of 3 locally fabricated rifles. Following preliminary interrogation, the suspect stated that he picked up the fleeing passengers from Kuba with no idea of their intended destination. The suspect, recovered weapons and motorcycle are currently in custody for detailed investigation and further exploitation.

    In another engagement, on Tuesday 30 June 2026, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE responding to intelligence report on massing up of large number of suspected terrorists within Rafin Bauna/Gero mountains in Jos South Local Government Area, successfully ambushed and neutralized 5 of the terrorists while others fled in disarray and were forced to abandoned their mission. Troops on the spot battle assessment and corroborated by some community members revealed that some of the terrorists neutralized during the encounter had been on the wanted list of the Command for orchestrating numerous dastardly attacks within Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas of the State.

    Additionally, on Thursday 2 July 2026, at about 12:10am, troops deployed at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos South LGA of Plateau State while on sentry duties were fired at by suspected terrorists who had breached the perimeter through a low fence and under cover of darkness. Troops swiftly engaged the terrorists and neutralized one of them while others fled. The body of the neutralized terrorist has been handed over to the police for further necessary action. Arms and ammunition recovered are currently in custody while troops are dominating the area with aggressive patrols.

    Operation ENDURING PEACE further reiterates its unwavering determination in denying terrorist elements freedom of action in the Joint Operations Area while reassuring the citizens of a deliberate and renewed efforts in securing lives and properties as well as restoring the desired peace in the Joint OperationsArea.
