The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, today, Thursday, 13th August, 2026 held an interactive session with members of the University community.
A statement signed by Sani Lawal maqarphy media aide to the VC said the meeting was held at the Dr A. A. Ladan Hall, where the Vice-Chancellor interacted with the University staff on issues relating to welfare, promotion, security and development of the institution.
On staff welfare, Prof. Bunkure said Management was addressing outstanding salary and promotion arrears, pension remittances and other welfare-related matters.
He directed the Bursar to ensure payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to some members of staff employed around 2018. He said some of the affected staff were still owed about five months’ salary arrears and directed that the outstanding payments be made within the following week.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that a whopping sum belonging to the University was in the IPPIS system following its migration, saying efforts were ongoing to recover the funds.
On staff promotion, Prof. Bunkure assured staff that there was no directive to stop promotion, stressing that any staff member due for promotion would be promoted.
He also announced that Management would constitute a committee to review complaints arising from the staff placement exercise, with representatives of the unions to be included.
Prof. Bunkure commended members of the University community for their support in improving security, particularly volunteers who had been conducting night surveillance within the University, saying these efforts had contributed to a reduction in cases of theft.
He urged academic staff to intensify research and publication, participate in international conferences and publish in reputable journals to improve the visibility of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor also reminded staff of their responsibility to protect official information, saying the Registrar would issue a circular reminding members of the University community of the Oath of Secrecy.
He further called for stronger collaboration between the University, industries, governments and civil societies to ensure that research and academic activities have wider societal impact.
Prof. Bunkure described the University as his “only pride” and said staff welfare should be a priority.
He called for continued cooperation and prayers from members of the University community.
