……Bunkure Advocates Sustained Media Collaboration for Institutional Growth
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, on Thursday hosted members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zaria Chapter, during a courtesy visit to his office, where he stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the media and educational institutions.
A statement signed by Sani Lawal maqarphy media aide to the VC said the interactive session, held on Thursday, 21 May 2026, centred on issues of mutual interest, particularly the role of the media in promoting institutional development, public engagement, and effective information dissemination.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Bunkure highlighted the progress recorded by the University since he assumed office, outlining achievements in critical areas including academic development, infrastructural improvement, staff and student welfare, and institutional advancement.
He stated that the University remained committed to strengthening its academic and administrative structures in line with its mandate and vision of attaining greater growth, relevance, and visibility.
Earlier, the Secretary of the NUJ, Zaria Chapter, Malam Haliru Hamza, a correspondent with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), said the visit was aimed at fostering closer engagement with the University’s management and reaffirming the Union’s readiness to project the institution’s positive achievements.
According to him, the media plays a vital role in national development through responsible journalism, balanced reporting, and effective dissemination of information to the public.
In his response, Prof. Bunkure described journalists as critical stakeholders in shaping public perception and strengthening institutional image. He commended members of the media for their contributions to societal development and called for sustained partnership in promoting the activities, programmes, and vision of the University.
Also present at the meeting were the Vice-Chancellor’s Chief of Staff, Malam Sani Ibrahim Wambai, and the Head of Internal Security, Malam Akilu Aminu.
Members of the NUJ delegation included correspondents from various media organisations, among them Malam Mustapha A. Yauri of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); Abubakar S. Muhammad and Abdulaziz Usman of FUE FM; Mu’azu Abubakar of Alheri Radio; Suleiman Jafar of KSMC/Queen FM; Sani Aliyu of New Nigerian; Kabiru Sulaiman of KSMC Television; and Malam Auwal Abdullahi of auwal Photography.
