The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has stressed the importance of vehicle handling and maintenance skills in enhancing both administrative support and operational effectiveness.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, acting deputy director army public relations,6 division Nigerian army said he made this known at the graduation ceremony of Driver’s Basic Course 3/2026 held at the 6 Division Training School, Port Harcourt Barracks.
The GOC, who represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 6 Division, Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu noted that the training would enable the participants to contribute effectively to the Division and the NA in general. He therefore urged the graduates to make good use of the knowledge and skills acquired, in contributing meaningfully to their respective formations and units. He also reminded them that considerable resources had been committed to their training and that they were expected to justify that investment.
In his welcome address, the Commander, 76 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Ogbonna Igwe, said the Driver’s Basic Course 3/2026 was aimed at improving soldiers’ driving ability, strengthening transportation capacity, and enhancing vehicle maintenance standards across formations and units within 6 Division Area of Responsibility.
He explained that the course aligns with the GOC’s mission statement to sustain operational efficiency through proper administration, effective training, discipline, and professionalism in a joint environment. According to him, the training was also designed to equip selected personnel with the necessary skills to operate Class ‘B’ vehicles, while promoting a better maintenance culture.
Brigadier General Igwe disclosed that although 60 personnel were initially slated for the 12-week course, 45 personnel drawn from different formations and units completed the training successfully. He added that the programme combined classroom instruction with practical driving sessions.
He expressed confidence that the participants had acquired valuable experience that would enhance their performance in their units. He urged them to remain disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties
