Headquarters Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, under the leadership of Brigadier General Edet Effiong, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the free movement of goods and services and creating a secure environment for economic activities across Yobe State.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Absolom Kandala Acting Assistant Director Army Public RelationsHeadquarters Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI Damaturu said the Commander made this commitment on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, when he hosted a delegation of the Yobe State Ease of Doing Business Council (YEoDBC), led by Engr. Maisanda Lawan mni, Chairman, Technical Advisory Team on Development and Finance. The delegation visited Headquarters Sector 2 to deliberate on recurring security and operational challenges affecting the movement of goods and services across the state.
In his welcome remarks, Brigadier General Effiong stated that the Nigerian Army remains the people’s Army and committed to ensuring that security measures facilitate rather than impede legitimate economic activities. He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies, government institutions, traders and other stakeholders in addressing challenges such as unnecessary roadblocks, extortion and insecurity along major trade routes.
The Commander further announced the establishment of a dedicated Desk Officer and a communication line at Sector Headquarters to enhance engagement with traders, transporters and relevant stakeholders across the Area of Responsibility. He also disclosed plans for a joint monitoring mechanism and a structured complaint and feedback system to promptly identify and address issues affecting the free movement of goods.
Brigadier General Effiong assured the delegation that Sector 2 would continue to support Yobe State’s aspiration to become a major hub for trade and investment, noting that a secure and efficient business environment requires collective responsibility and sustained cooperation among all stakeholders.
Earlier in his remarks, Engr. Maisanda Lawan commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts to facilitate the movement of goods and safeguard critical trade routes. He noted that improved security along commercial corridors contributes directly to economic growth, strengthens civil-military relations and improves livelihoods, particularly in rural communities.
In a related development, the Commander, represented by the Chief of Staff, Colonel Usman Abdulsalam, declared open a two-day Biorisk Management (BRM) Workshop at the Level II Field Hospital, Damaturu. The workshop, supported by the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency–Cooperative Threat Reduction, Sandia National Laboratories and the Nigerian Army, is designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge and practical understanding of biorisk management through modules of the Global Biorisk Management Curriculum.
Also on the same day, a two-day lecture on vehicle inspection commenced in collaboration with the Yobe State Vehicle Inspection Office. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and professional competence of personnel in vehicle inspection and related security procedures.
The engagements underscore Headquarters Sector 2’s continued commitment to strengthening inter-agency partnerships, enhancing operational readiness and creating an enabling security environment for economic activity. They also reinforce the Nigerian Army’s role as a responsive and dependable partner in advancing the security, development and economic aspirations of Yobe State.
