The Federal University of Education, Zaria, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, successfully held its 2025/2026 orientation programme in preparation for the maiden matriculation ceremony for its first set of undergraduate students.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, congratulated the students on their admission and expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the opportunity to witness the landmark occasion.
A statement signed by Sani Lawal maqarphy media aide to the VC said the VC described the students as fortunate, noting that admission into the institution was highly competitive, with only the most qualified candidates selected.
Prof. Bunkure emphasized the importance of the orientation programme, describing it as a critical step in the academic journey of students. According to him, the programme is designed to acquaint them with the university’s norms, values, and regulations, including expected conduct and academic responsibilities.
Highlighting the institution’s legacy since its establishment in 1962, the Vice-Chancellor urged students to uphold its reputation for excellence. He stressed the importance of regular lecture attendance, noting that a minimum of 75% attendance is required for eligibility to sit for examinations.
He further reiterated the university’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and advised students to be mindful of the associations they form. On security, Prof. Bunkure assured students of the institution’s commitment, citing the establishment of a Security Directorate as part of efforts to ensure a safe learning environment.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the 2025/2026 Matriculation Ceremony Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Suleiman Balarabe, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, management team, and attendees for their presence. He encouraged students to pay close attention and make the most of the orientation sessions.
The programme featured presentations on key aspects of student life, including dress code, security awareness, use of the university clinic and library, examination guidelines, CGPA grading system, scholarship opportunities, guidance and counselling, skills acquisition, and career development services.
The event was attended by members of the university management, including the Acting Registrar, Malam Shehu Iya Sa’idu; Acting Bursar, Alhaji Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu; Acting University Librarian, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Abdul; and other principal officers, directors, deans, heads of departments, staff,and students.
