The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, has charged commanders of affiliated formations and units of 6 Division Nigerian Army to leave enduring legacies in their units by initiating projects that enhance personnel welfare and improve operational efficiency.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam,Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Nigerian Army Public Relations said the GOC gave the charge on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, during the commissioning of a newly renovated accommodation block and a dual-purpose photo stand with a notice board at Headquarters 29 Battalion, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated accommodation block, Major General Emekah stated that providing decent, secure and conducive accommodation for troops and their families have always been a key priority of his command. He stressed that improved living conditions directly enhance the morale, welfare and fighting efficiency of personnel, thereby enabling them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities with greater commitment and professionalism. The GOC commended the Commanding Officer, 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo for initiating the project and urged the beneficiaries to maintain the facility to ensure its longevity and continued usefulness.

While commissioning the dual-purpose photo stand and notice board at the Battalion Headquarters, the GOC described the project as a simple but significant initiative that serves more than a decorative purpose. It is an important regimental and communication facility that preserves institutional memory, promotes esprit de corps, and projects the unit’s identity, he added. He therefore encouraged commanders to continue implementing impactful projects, irrespective of their size, as every meaningful initiative contributes to the growth and development of the Nigerian Army.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commanding Officer expressed appreciation to the GOC for his exemplary leadership and unwavering support. He disclosed that upon assuming command of the Battalion, the GOC charged him to sustain the developmental strides of his predecessor, a directive that inspired him to execute projects worthy of commissioning. Lieutenant Colonel Ochigbo assured the GOC that the Battalion would remain steadfast in upholding the Chief of Army Staff’s ‘Soldier First Culture’ while sustaining initiatives that promote personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.

The commissioning ceremonies attracted senior officers, commanders of formations and units, officers and soldiers of the Division, as well as other invited guests. The highlights of the events were the unveiling of the projects, inspection of the newly commissioned facilities and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
