The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, has commissioned a series of newly upgraded and modernized infrastructural facilities at Command Secondary School, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, as part of efforts aimed at enhancing academic excellence, security, and staff welfare within the institution.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya Acting Deputy’ director army public relations 81 division Nigerian army said the commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, attracted senior military officers, education stakeholders, staff, students, and invited guests.
The projects, executed under the leadership of the Acting Commandant of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Oluwafemi Olagbende, include the remodeling of the school entrance gate, installation of a solar power station, renovation of the quarter guard and second gate, upgrade of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, renovation and furnishing of the staff room, procurement of communication radios, provision of uniforms for security personnel, as well as other key infrastructural improvements across the school.
Speaking during the event, the GOC 81 Division, Major General Babalola commended the Acting Commandant for the remarkable transformation achieved within a short period since assuming office in January 2026. He noted that the projects would significantly improve the learning environment, strengthen security architecture, boost staff morale, and enhance the overall outlook of the institution.
The GOC particularly described the solar power installation as a strategic intervention that would ensure uninterrupted academic and administrative activities, especially within classrooms, laboratories, and the CBT Centre.
He further appreciated the support and contributions of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), alumni association, school management, and other stakeholders whose collaborative efforts contributed to the successful execution of the projects. While addressing the students, the GOC urged them to remain disciplined, dedicated to their studies, and make judicious use of the facilities provided for their benefit.
He also cautioned senior students against bullying and all forms of misconduct. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W Shaibu, to the continuous development of Command schools and the promotion of quality education nationwide.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Commandant of the School ,Lieutenant Colonel Oluwafemi Olagbende, described the occasion as a significant milestone in the school’s development journey. He expressed appreciation to Headquarters 81 Division, Headquarters Nigerian Army Engineers, Commander 45 Engineer Brigade, the Director 81 Division Education Services, PTA, alumni, and members of the school management team for their invaluable support towards the successful completion of the projects.
He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining a safe, disciplined, and academically competitive environment conducive for learning and character development.
The event was attended by the Commander 45 Engineer Brigade, Brigadier General MO Momoh, representative of the Corps Commander Education, principal staff officers, senior officers, staff, students, and other distinguished guests. Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of a Hybrid Early Warning Detective Security System by the school’s JET Club, cultural performances, guided tour of the newly completed facilities, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
