The Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies operating within the state. Governor Fubara made this declaration, at Government House, Port Harcourt, during a courtesy visit by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, (South-South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Everest Okoro.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Nigerian Army Public Relations said building on this declaration, the Governor emphasized that effective collaboration with the Nigerian Army is a collective business requiring the active participation of all key stakeholders to ensure the total security of critical national infrastructure domiciled across Rivers State. Consequently, Governor Fubara commended the Nigerian Army leadership for hosting the recent Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 in the state. He described the event as a landmark for the military, noting that choosing Rivers State as the host venue clearly demonstrated the sustained peace, stability, and hospitality prevailing in the region.
Earlier in his remarks, the GOC expressed deep appreciation to the Governor on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the warm hospitality and support extended to the military during NADCEL 2026. Furthermore, Major General Okoro stated that Rivers State occupies a strategic position not only in the Niger Delta Region but in the socio-economic setup of the nation at large. He noted that the Armed Forces consider the state a crucial partner in achieving overarching national security aspirations.
Furthermore, the GOC averred that his familiarization visit was essential for strengthening the existing robust relationship between, 6 Division and the Rivers State Government. He pointed out that the peace and stability currently enjoyed across the state remain vital catalysts for driving socio-economic development and attracting continuous investment.
Major General Okoro also reiterated the commitment of the Division to upholding the core values, professionalism and constitutional mandate of the Nigerian Army. He stressed the importance of the military’s continues dedication and sacrifices towards enhancing security, while ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law. The highlights of the visit included the signing of visitors’ book, exchange of official souvenirs, and a group photograph.
