The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Tsangaya Education, Sheikh Musa Falaki, has accused former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, of allegedly diverting N308 million said to have been collected in the names of clerics for special prayers across the 44 local government areas.
Falaki made the allegation in a video interview circulated by Hikima Radio.
According to him, the former leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, in Kano claimed that the 44 councils contributed N44 million monthly for seven months to sponsor special prayers.
He said he and Sheikh Ibrahim Sheshi Maihula were to coordinate the prayers, but were unaware that money was allegedly being collected in their names.
Falaki said neither he nor Sheikh Maihula received any funds nor organised the prayers.
He said they only learnt of the releases after they were invited by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, during an investigation.
He alleged that the investigation showed that N44 million was released monthly for seven months, totalling N308 million, and that since the clerics did not receive the money or conduct the prayers, Gwarzo had allegedly diverted the entire amount.
Falaki further alleged that the matter formed part of a PCACC probe in which Gwarzo was reportedly asked to refund more than N700 million allegedly diverted from the treasuries of the 44 local government councils.
Gwarzo had not responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
