The Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, economic empowerment, grassroots engagement, and sustainable opportunities for the people of Zaria.

A statement signed by Galadima Ishaq, Chief Press Secretary Office of the executive chairman, Zaria local government said yesterday, the flagged off  an empowerment programme for persons with special needs, through which ₦5 million was disbursed to 110 beneficiaries, with individual cash support ranging from ₦45,000 to ₦85,000.

The statement said the initiative underscores the administration’s determination to support vulnerable members of society, promote economic independence, and ensure that no one is left behind in the development process.

It said that this intervention builds on the administration’s previous efforts to empower persons with special needs and young people. Last year, the council sponsored the training of 100 persons with special needs and youths in Point of Sale (POS) operations, providing each participant with ₦50,000 as start-up capital and a brand-new POS machine to establish a business and work towards financial independence.

In another engagement, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga met with a coalition of over 100 youth and women groups and cooperative societies across Zaria at Government Secondary School, Kofar Kuyanbana.

The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with organised groups, encourage participation in grassroots development, and recognise the important contributions of women and young people to community growth and socioeconomic progress.

The Chairman subsequently hosted the regular senior stakeholders’ meeting at the Zaria Local Government Council Chamber, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal.

The meeting was attended by Zaria Local Government’s two representatives in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing Zaria Kewaye and Zaria City, alongside other key stakeholders from the 13 wards of the local government.

The gathering provided a platform for constructive dialogue, the exchange of ideas, and the strengthening of collective efforts towards addressing community needs and advancing the development agenda of Zaria Local Government.

As part of his commitment to youth development and sports promotion, the Chairman also received representatives of BABS Nigeria Limited, a team of sports consultants who briefed him on the forthcoming pre-season national league and NFF President Cup, which Zaria is set to host.

The proposed sporting events are expected to create opportunities for young talents, encourage sporting participation, and enhance Zaria’s visibility within Nigeria’s sporting community. The Chairman welcomed the engagement, recognising the potential of sports as a tool for youth empowerment, talent discovery, and community development.

In the course of the day’s activities, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga also received several delegations and groups for discussions, consultations, and courtesy visits. These included:

1- Representatives of the Zaria Local Government Hisba Board, Kaura Command.

2- 350 decampees from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaura Ward, who expressed their readiness to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

3 – Viewing Centre Proprietors from Zaria.

4 – Representatives of the Zone 1 APC Christian Movement.

5- Representatives of the Ebira Community, Tudun Wada, Zaria Branch.

These engagements demonstrated the Chairman’s commitment to maintaining open channels of communication with community groups, political stakeholders, professional associations, and diverse sections of the population.

The declaration of readiness by the 350 ADC decampees to join the APC also represents a significant political development in Kaura Ward, highlighting ongoing political realignments and engagement within the local government.

His people-oriented leadership continues to build momentum for political unity, stability, and sustained development across the 13 wards.
